Large amounts of money given away in Florida
A Miami news team is getting involved in giving away big money. If you are wondering if you may be one of the big money recipients, read on.
There is more than $1 billion in the state’s unclaimed property office. Some of it might be yours.
NBC 6’s Joel Connable reported that he has an entire list of people owed “big money,” from $10,000 to more than $100,000.
With a few clicks on a computer, NBC 6 found some owners. Alstene McKinney is one of those found owners. Her $43,000 was from an old employer, the Miami-Dade County School District. It was money from her pension that she never received.
Anytime a business or bank or any entity has money that they owe someone, they are to try and find those people, and if they cannot, they must turn it over to the state.
The state is currently holding billions inside a vault in Tallahassee. A lot of this money is from forgotten safe deposit boxes, stock certificates and old collections.
There are more than 1 million people in Florida who are owed big money, Connable reported. Some people are owed as much as $100,000 -$200,000. So, NBC 6 researched the state’s entire database of thousands of names, people owed the really big money.
NBC 6 knocked on people’s doors and showed up at their homes. Everyone NBC 6 found was owed more than $10,000, Connable reported.
For some people, such as Alstene McKinney, the money is especially sweet. What would you do with big money?
