Texas has $1.3 billion it is seeking to give away.
It is the duty of Texas Controller Carole Keeton Strayhorn to locate the owners of $1.3 billion the state is holding in unclaimed assets.
Sometimes when you see a coin on the ground you pick it up. But if you take the time to look up your name on a particular website, www.CashUnclaimed.com, you could find a whole lot more than a single cent.
Right now more than 100,000 Texans have money being held for them by the state because for whatever reason they couldn’t be found to get the check. But claiming the money now is as easy as jumping on a computer and spending five minutes of your time.
$1.3 billion just sitting there – and the state’s holding on to it. $27.5 million in unclaimed wages, $8.9 million in dormant bank accounts, $4.9 million in uncashed checks—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
In Washington County Texas you may be one of the 150 individuals wanted by the state. In this case you are wanted because the state owes you money. In October the state published a listing of Washington County individuals known to have money owed them. This was published in several metropolitan newspapers.
In Houston, Jeff Ehling of ABC 13 News Team did the research and found Houston’s own Beyonce Knowles. She has $161 unclaimed from a cast and crew talent service out of California. Knowles ws contacted about the money. No surprise—the multi-millionaire wasn’t too concerned about it.
If you don’t have any money coming back to you, chances are you know someone who does. Jeff’s team found 13 Healthcheck reporter Christi Myers has $175 in unclaimed cash. His team also found $250 for Memorial area Dr. Cyril Wolf who said “I think it’s great, I’ll give it back to charity.”
