Right now US Treasury officials are fielding incoming checks, bank accounts and other monetary funds and they don’t quite know what to do with them. These checks and accounts do have a rightful owner, but the money comes in so quickly and there’s just so much of it that returning all of those lost funds to the proper owners would be downright impossible. Unclaimed property in Florida has recently hit the $1.6 Billion mark and the money and items flowing into the state’s Treasury show no signs of slowing. This wouldn’t be an issue if the Treasury office had the manpower and resources to count and manage all that loot. Instead, the cash and items are stored away in a Treasury vault until such time as the rightful owners step forward to claim them. With hardly anyone stepping forward, officials are worried that Florida unclaimed property could grow to be completely unmanageable in the near future.

Once you lose money it’s gone forever, right? Not necessarily, it turns out. For some lucky Kansas residents, searching for money that was once lost and is now considered unclaimed could end up making this month a very lucky one. Unclaimed money is money that goes missing due to abandonment, computer and human banking errors, oversight and laziness in some cases. In almost all of the cases, the owner of the money is completely unaware that the money is in fact retrievable. Whether the money consists of a bank account a person left behind years ago or the contents of a safe deposit box that has long been forgotten, that money is most certainly retrievable and it can be done so from any home, office or mobile device.
