New Jersey’s Office of Unclaimed Property naming names

When cleaning house there are a lot of things that can be found. Some of these you have not seen in so long you may have forgotten about them. Well it is known that many people may have forgotten about property too. You may have lost treasures being held as unclaimed property. New Jersey is publishing in newspapers a list of names of rightful owners of unclaimed property.

About 25 years ago Jimmy Sparks, a Vietnam veteran, returned to the United States and found work with Lowe’s in Jackson, Mississippi.

While employed with Lowe’s he decided to invest in the company, so he purchased some stock. Jimmy left Lowe’s just before he reached 15 years of employment and returned to Georgia. He did not do anything with his stock options at that time, not sure what his rights were regarding the stock.

The controversy surrounding gift cards is continuing in Georgia. This week the Supreme Court is hearing both sides of this issue.

The debate began years ago as an argument over the legality of expiration dates and non-usage fees. It has since evolved into a battle over whether a gift card recipient can sue the issuing company for the card’s value.

The Georgia Court of Appeals said no last month which was a reversal of a trial court’s decision. The Appeals Court threw out the lawsuit that accused mall operator Simon Property Group of illegally deducting value from its gift cards and keeping the remaining balances when customers didn’t use them before a deadline.

The North Carolina State Treasurer’s office is holding more than $500 million in unclaimed property.

Bill Isley, much to his astonishment was told the state had approximately $3,650.00 for him to claim. The money was from a sport utility vehicle he sold more than 10 years ago.

Per Isley, the transaction just got misplaced, he moved on into a new job and things just got lost in the shuffle. This is the typical scenario for lost money.

    All Alabama residents are wanted by the State Treasurer’s Office. Don’t run from this search. The State wants to give money away.

    It has been reported that State Treasurer Kay Ivey is looking for Covington County residents. Her reason for the search is to return approximately $545,000 to rightful owners. If you don’t live in Covington County, there still may be money for you in the State’s coffers.

    An unclaimed property listing will be published in local papers. You could have money in the state’s coffers waiting to be claimed.

    In Rock County, Wisconsin some property owners are missing roughly $1.5 million in unclaimed property per the office of State Treasurer Jack Voight. The state is advertising about 64,000 names in newspapers statewide.

    About 36,600 unclaimed stock shares account for some of that amount in Rock County. Other unclaimed assets may include bank accounts, checks, bonds, insurance claims, stock dividends or wages.

    Within the state there are approximately 700,000 property owners who have not claimed about $300 million. Included in that number is unclaimed money reported as early as 1970.
