Maryland is Searching For Owners of Unclaimed Property

Reported in the Washington Post, the state of Maryland is searching for the owners of unclaimed property. The state Comptroller, Peter Franchot, is running a list of unclaimed property owners in the annual paper for the next 2 weeks. There is currently $50 million being held by the Maryland state treasury in unclaimed property, and it is the state Comptroller’s mission to return this money back to its owners.

The state is currently holding money that has been unclaimed for 3 years or more. They have been successful in returning over $300 million over the past few years in unclaimed property, and hope this “Treasure Hunt” initiative will help to return more.
