Idaho’s Government Hard At Work Finding Unclaimed Money Owners

Unclaimed money is a problem that most of the states are dealing with, but Idaho is a bit ahead. The current Idaho unclaimed money comes to over $60 million dollars. With the availability of over 500 thousand records, the state agencies are finding it difficult to deal with the pressure.

Idaho lost money is always an issue that the state agencies have been dealing with over the past few years. The state agencies are also trying hard to locate the rightful owners and to educate the masses about the problem. The state run website is updated regularly and the names of all the owners are published on the unclaimed property website. The state claims a return of over $3 million dollars last year, but the problem of unclaimed funds are still rising, which the agencies blame on the ignorance of the people.

It is the duty of Idaho State Tax Commission to re-unite the state unclaimed money with their rightful owners. The same authority acts as a custodian for all the unclaimed assets or properties that have been abandoned by the rightful owner due to any particular reason or circumstance. As a part of the state initiatives, list of all the owners along with their last known addresses are mentioned on the website of www.sto.idaho.gov/unclaimedproperty/.

In the public releases made by the state, it has been clearly mentioned that, similar to other states in the U.S, the procedure for reporting and claiming lost properties are same. About 9 out of every 10 citizens in Idaho have unclaimed funds in their name, which can be easily figured out from the official website of NAUPA.

Idaho government is trying very hard to relocate the rightful owners of the property. Idaho has issued annual reports that mention Idaho unclaimed money and assets in the form of savings or checking accounts, uncashed checks, securities, dividends, insurance refunds or claims, oil royalties, wages, utility refunds/deposits, bail bonds, child support payments and much more along with the owners. Moreover, fairs and various awareness programs are scheduled on regular basis to generate interest and inform the people about claiming Idaho unclaimed money.
