Are You the Owner of $840,000 in North Carolina Unclaimed Funds?

North Carolina’s government is giving the amount of $840,000 in unclaimed funds one more month for the owner to come forward to claim it. This lump sum was found in a storage unit in Graham during a drug investigation in April.

The IRS has been publishing notices in the newspaper to notify the owner of the existence of this unclaimed money, however no one has come forward to be the proven owner of this money. The money will be forfeited to the government if not claimed before August 21, 2012.

San Diego Residents: Find Your Unclaimed Cash

Reported today in the San Diego Business Journal, San Diego county has around 800 unclaimed cash accounts, which amounts to $200,000. San Diego State Treasurer, Dan McAllister, has been working hard to return the unclaimed money to it’s owners.

These funds are from anyone who has done business with any county department in the past 3 years, and are overpayments. The majority of the money is property tax refunds, and the remaining is from refunds by various county departments.

San Diego State Treasurer is hoping the owners will come forward to claim the money by September 14th. After the deadline, the unclaimed money is transferred to the general funds.

After August 1, according to the county treasurer tax collector, “If the money remains unclaimed for four years after the payment date, or one year after the mailing of your claim form, whichever is later, state codes allow the county to keep the cash.”
