Massachusetts Launches Intense Statewide Unclaimed Funds Reclaim Campaign
The Massachusetts unclaimed funds’ pile has been increasing at an alarming rate. In Massachusetts, it is estimated that 1 out of every 10 people have abandoned property. In the September’s publication of unclaimed properties, the total of unclaimed properties is now over $21 million in new unclaimed accounts with 40,000 individuals and businesses listed.
MA pursues its agenda of uniting the unclaimed funds with their owners in a very serious manner. In accordance with Massachusetts General Law c. 200A, Section 7A, a due diligence notice must be sent by first-class mail to every owner’s last known address at least 60 days prior to filing a report and turning over assets to the Abandoned Property Division.
The Abandoned Property Division has begun an outreach program to continue its efforts in reuniting citizens with their abandoned assets. Abandoned Property Division staff will be visiting various events and locations, i.e. fairs, assisted living facilities etc., in the coming months to personally answer many of the citizen’s questions and increase our level of service to the citizens of Massachusetts.
If any organization is interested in having personnel from the Abandoned Property Division visit your place, then they contact at:

Senior officials of the state government has been very active on utilizing the power of online media in reaching out to the citizens of the state and create awareness about the unclaimed money. Catherine Gropp, who is the Assistant Director of Communications and the Social Media Coordinator at the Office of the Treasury for Massachusetts, firmly believes that an apt use of social media and other online techniques will be the most effective means of conveying a message to the millions of state citizens regarding their unclaimed money.
